Rado has tapped Cameron Norrie for the Swiss watchmaker’s limited edition Rado Captain Cook x Cameron Norrie timepiece, which launched at the Hurlingham Club during the Giorgio Amani Tennis Classic week ahead of Wimbledon. Norrie, who broke into the ATP top ten rankings in 2022, is currently the number one men’s singles player in the UK for tennis, and says he is honored to release his first watch with Rado and that it’s “certainly perfect timing” announcing the timepiece during the grass court season in the United Kingdom.
The Rado Captain Cook x Cameron Norrie Limited Edition features a 42mm polished stainless steel case and crown and a polished stainless steel rotating bezel with a polished green high-tech ceramic bezel insert with engraved numbers and markers in matt white Super-LumiNova. Only 823 pieces will be made available, with the number corresponding to the tennis star’s birthday of August 23.
Having worked with Rado closely over the past year on the watch, Norrie says he had been “massively involved” in the design process and thinks the team has done an “outstanding job.” When asked about his favorite features, Norrie says: “I like all of it honestly — especially the dark green. The best features for me are the small tennis balls at 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock, 8 o’clock and 12 o’clock position, resembling the scoring of 15/30/40/game.”
Rado has sponsored tennis for over three decades now. Since 1985, the brand has partnered with several tournaments but also with athletes such as Ashleigh Barty. Their latest tennis-themed timepiece is a limited edition created with young British player Cameron Norrie, a member of the Rado Tennis family since 2021. And as you have probably guessed from the start, it is based on one of their star collections, the Captain Cook.
Presented during the tennis grass season, this limited-edition Rado Captain Cook x Cameron Norrie comes in a 42mm steel case with a unidirectional bezel fitted with a green polished ceramic insert. It is matched by a domed green-to-white gradient dial. The Rado moving anchor logo is featured on a purple back plate and adds a playful element to the dial. The use of Superluminova on the bezel, dial and hands provides enhanced legibility in all conditions while bringing a sporty touch. The tip of the second hand is highlighted in yellow as a reference to tennis balls.
Inside this limited edition Rado Captain Cook x Cameron Norrie dive watch is the automatic calibre R763, also known as Powermatic 80 used by a fair number of other Swatch Group brands as well. This precise and reliable movement is an upgraded version of the ubiquitous ETA 2824. It has 25 jewels, a beat rate of 21,600vph (3Hz) and a beefed-up power reserve of 80 hours. It features an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring. Functions include central hours, minutes, seconds and the date. The stop-second mechanism allows for precise settings.
